Chapter 98: The Conclusion PT.3
Chapter 98: The Conclusion PT.3
Sam was driving like a maniac, running over the zombies in his path with a child-like glee.
Jason was worried that they might run over something other than a zombie and get stuck in the middle of the road.
The car wasn’t anything fancy and was more like an SUV, it was the perfect kind of vehicle to have in this situation.
But that also meant that the fuel consumption was out of this world, they had to be mindful of this but there were filling stations.
This is where they needed to go right now otherwise they risked running out of gas mid-journey.
They had already covered a lot of distance in the short time that they had been on the road, this showed just how invaluable the car was to them.
Luckily, Sam had an idea of this area and made a quick stop to see if he could get anything for the SUV.
"Keep an eye on her, Jason and Rache. Clementine, you’re with me," Sam said as he exited the car, Clementine wanted to protest but she didn’t have any grounds to.
She didn’t know what Sam was up to but she knew that he wasn’t just going to allow Bella back into the group just because they rescued.
They had to go into the building to pay for the gas or rather, search for any gallon of gas that might have been stocked or hidden after the apocalypse started.
They hoped that someone hadn’t snatched it up if it was there in the first place,
The tension was clear in the air, at least Clementine was feeling it.
"Sam, I want to apologize for earlier," Clementine began her grand apology because she knew it would be better to be on good terms with him than bad.
Clementine wasn’t oblivious to the dangers, she would have gone along with Sam on a normal day and even when she supported Jason, it proved to be the wrong decision as the man that they were supposedly going to interrogate was the same man that did this to Sam.
But Clementine couldn’t help but think that he played a role in their freedom.
So if they sided with him as Jason suggested, then they would have most likely been wiped and even with all that, she shouldn’t have put her hands on Sam.
This was something that Sam has never done to her.
"You have really grown soft, Clementine," Sam scoffed.
"Hey, I’m trying here!" Clementine exclaimed but this only brought a faint chuckle from Sam’s barely parted lips.
"You have finally found someone you believe in, I respect that," Sam responded.
He held no grudge against Clementine but he did appreciate her apologizing.
"Clementine..." Sam called out.
Clementine’s ears stood in hopes of hearing an apology from Sam as well.
"If you ever lay your hands on me again, you best be prepared to lose them," Sam threatened her; the smiling face he had moments ago disappeared and the look in his eyes could only be described as murderous.
Clementine wasn’t intimidated by this, she knew that Sam wouldn’t tolerate it happening again and she had no intentions of repeating it either.
She knew that this was a one-time thing and one of the few times she let her emotions get the better of her but she was well aware that Sam shouldn’t be the recipient of it or it would come with consequences.
"There’s the Sam I know and love... So want to tell me what you intend to do with Allison?" Clementine said with a scoff, brushing aside his threat because she knew he wouldn’t act on it if she respected his boundaries.
"Who is Allison?" Sam asked with a raised brow.
"The last you recruited...." Clementine responded with a poker face.
"You wouldn’t believe me if I told you I had momentarily forgotten all about her," Sam stopped himself from laughing.
"I don’t care about her, I brought her on to confirm something about Jason..." Sam responded with a more serious tone.
"Confirm something?" Clementine asked.
"Don’t worry about it, I have it handled," Sam said with a devious grin
before ending the conversation abruptly.
Clementine didn’t understand what he meant by this but she knew digging around would be pointless seeing as Sam was good at keeping things to himself.
She would only know if he wanted her to, there was no going around it.
"Look over there, we need to search for anything that could be useful to us," Sam instructed her.
They weren’t just her for fuel but now that they had a car, they needed the necessary tools to fix it.
Luckily, tools could be found in this place.
Clementine grabbed them while Sam went to the other compartment of the room alone.
It didn’t even take a minute for a scream to echo from within that same room.
This scream was no other than Sam, Clementine rushed in that direction without a moment’s hesitation.
"SAM!" She screamed as she had her gun out, ready to gun down any threat.
"CLEMENTINE! I FOUND IT!" Sam exclaimed, Clementine looked around to see what it was he was talking about.
"You found gas?" Clementine questioned.
"Oh right, we’re looking for that..." Sam muttered.
Clementine took a deep breath because something told her if she didn’t, she would say something she would regret.
Her eyes slowly drifted to Sam’s hand and she saw a candy bar, Nestlé Wonder Ball; this was a candy bar that had stopped production for some time now and was nearly extinct across the world.
She also knew that Sam had a sweet tooth when it came to such things.
"Sam..." Clementine muttered.
"Hey Clem, what’s up?" Sam responded in the most casual tone.
"WHY THE HELL DID YOU SCREAM THAT LOUD?" Clementine had to check-in.
"Geez, don’t you think you’re overreacting? The day I will need you to save me is the day the world is ending..." Sam said bluntly.
"Look around you, the world is ending and I did save you!" Clementine reminded him.
"Ah, shoot. I had a comeback for this but I guess I should probably just show you what you want to see," Sam said, he pointed at the corner of the room and four dead zombies lay on the group; they had been killed by Sam but this wasn’t all, three keg of gas.
"Sam... You really are something," Clementine complimented her partner.
-
Jason was seated in the car, the silence was loud and there was a tinge of an awkward atmosphere but no one knew who or what was causing it.
Bella was sleeping, resting up as she recovered from her wounds leaving only Allison, Rachel, and Jason.
"I’m glad you’re safe, Jason," Rachel said out of the blue, breaking the silence.
"I cannot be killed... Or Lillian will kick my ass," Jason said and Rachel chuckled the moment she heard this.
He was right, Lillian would kick his ass if something like death dared to harm him.
"You seem close," Allison chipped in her own two cents, she wanted to get along with her comrades even though she knew that they didn’t trust her for shit.
But what is a little conversation?
"Did you know each other before the apocalypse?" Allison added; that she wasn’t going to go in half-assed and intended to get the answers to her questions.
"No, why?" Rachel answered bluntly, her energy completely shifted the moment she heard this.
"But you like him, don’t you?" Allison asked and Rachel’s mouth immediately clamped shut.
The awkward silence that followed was louder than the first.
Jason looked through the rearview mirror and made eye contact with her.
"I like him obviously, I wouldn’t be here if I didn’t," Rachel said, trying her best to give an alternative meaning to Allsion’s question.
Rachel knew what she was asking and managed to turn it around in her favour.
"So he’s up for grabs?" Allison asked and the moment she did, Rachel’s body stiffened up.
"It shouldn’t be a problem if you’re just friends, right?" Allison asked with a mocking smirk.
All Jason could hear was another female potentially showing interest in him.
"Sweet!" Jason thought to himself but before he could delve deeper into his perverse thoughts.
He was interrupted by Chronos.

"Sweet!" Jason accidentally shouted this, no one could blame him for his excitement because this meant that he would only become stronger.
There would be no stopping him at this rate because there were monsters in this world and he was nowhere as strong as he needed to be to protect those he cared about because what if something like this happened again? He couldn’t continue relying on Sam for protection, that was no way to live, he needed to be able to support him.
However, this little mishap was misinterpreted by Rachel who took Jason’s excitement as him being happy that they were platonic friends.
To her, she has just been put in the friend zone.
