Chapter 6 Orc Laborers
Chapter 6 Orc Laborers
The newly arrived orc laborers stood there dumbfounded, scratching their heads without saying a word.
Lei Chi saw his attributes and thought, "Isn't this just a gold-digging assistant?"
"Hard work!"
"What is it, sir?"
"Let's go mine for gold!"
"Yes, sir!"
After a brief exchange, the orc laborer Harley headed towards the gold mine. Lei Chi, curious, followed behind him and soon saw him pick up his [useful pickaxe] and begin digging.
His digging movements were stiff and mechanical, but the speed was not slow. The pickaxe flew, and he dug once every two seconds. As he started digging, a prompt appeared above his head.
"Copper coins +0.6"
"Copper coins +0.6"
"Critical hit, +1.2 copper coins"
"Copper coins +0.6"
……
Lei Chi stood by and watched for a while, and roughly understood. The orc laborer Harley's attack speed is 0.5, so he digs the ground once every two seconds on average. His loyalty is 60 and his work efficiency is 60%, so he can get 0.6 copper coins each time he digs the ground!
I reckon if his loyalty reaches 100, he can dig up a copper coin every time he digs the ground. But if his loyalty is 0, his work efficiency is 0%, and he can only dig the ground without earning any money.
In reality, copper and silver coins are just virtual currencies used for calculations. The only real currency in the Tata world is gold coins. You dig for gold in a gold mine, and you can only withdraw it once you've accumulated enough gold coins.
"If this green-skinned orc keeps working like this, digging the ground 30 times a minute, 1800 times an hour, and counting the critical hits from the pickaxe, he could probably dig up about 1400 copper coins. That would take more than seven hours to accumulate one gold coin, and he wouldn't even have one gold coin by the end of the protection period!"
Lei Chi pondered that since no gold coins had been found in the claims chest this time, but he had one in his hand, he could use it to purchase insurance.
However, it's best to save up one more gold coin before the protection period ends. Who knows, someone might time their attack perfectly to steal it? If you lose one more gold coin, you can get a bigger payout from the system, right?
Thinking of this, Lei Chi said to the orc laborer, "Stop. You're working too slowly and you're not professional. Give me your pickaxe, and I'll demonstrate for you."
Level 1 gold mines only allow one unit to mine gold at a time. Orc laborers can mine, but Thunder Pool cannot. So he took the pickaxe from the orc laborer and started digging at the ground like a maniac.
In gold mining, it doesn't matter if your movements are standard or not; you just dig the ground with your pickaxe and you'll make money. Lei Chi uses a light lift and quick dig, which is much faster than the orc laborers who work in a rigid and methodical way.
He dug for 20 minutes straight and collected 15 silver coins before handing the pickaxe back to the orc laborer.
"Just do it this way, understand?"
Lei Chi casually remarked that he estimated he had been working like this for twenty minutes, and if the orc laborers continued to work without slacking off, they would be able to accumulate a gold coin in about six hours.
"Yes, sir!"
The orc laborer nodded and mechanically began digging again, with the same movements and the same efficiency as before.
Lei Chi didn't expect him to actually improve efficiency, so he stopped acting as the supervisor. There was still a construction blueprint for the Beast Tower in the compensation chest that he hadn't taken out yet. He took it out, and with a ding, the blueprint entered his hand and immediately generated attributes, revealing itself to be another [Little Tiger Construction Blueprint].
"Am I somehow destined to be with tiger cubs? There are three of them now!"
Lei Chi was quite frustrated; no matter how many tiger cubs he had, he couldn't defeat the invading wild monsters.
He grumbled and placed the third little tiger at the front of the war corridor. Lei Chi looked at the three little brothers, meowing and making noises, which was quite amusing.
The cub can level up by killing enemies. Killing a thousand enemies will upgrade it into a big tiger. Lei Chi thought this leveling-up mechanism was quite interesting. He was curious about what attributes the big tiger would have, but unfortunately there were no wild monsters for the cub to kill.
"My camp is too basic. I haven't unlocked buildings like the War Hall and Trading Hall yet. There are no activities, and I'm bored. I can't log off, and I can't even browse forums to look up game information. Life is so lonely."
Lei Chi can only look at the chat panel to pass the time now.
The messages posted in the public chat group are mostly about guilds recruiting members, buying and selling items, which are not very interesting. Occasionally, someone will talk about high-level defensive towers.
According to Lei Chi's information, the highest level player in the Tower World is currently around level 30, which means they have defeated the thirty-something waves of monster invasion. At this stage, a Tier 3 defensive tower is considered a high-level defensive tower, Tier 4 defensive towers are probably rare, and Tier 5 defensive towers are likely nonexistent.
Upgrading a defensive tower to a higher tier increases its power by more than tenfold. Most defensive towers have an upgrade mechanism, and the upgrade conditions vary. Some require special materials, some require gold coins, some are upgraded by defeating enemies, some are unlocked through missions, and so on.
However, defensive towers generally have a tier cap. For example, the machine gun tower that Lei Chi knows about is known as the "little god tower," but it can only be upgraded to tier two at most.
For example, the cannon turret in the technology tower can only be upgraded to level three!
To obtain higher-tier defense towers, players can gradually upgrade them from Tier 1 defense towers.
Alternatively, you can directly use the blueprints for building advanced defense towers.
However, blueprints for high-level defenses are hard to obtain. The city defense center only sells blueprints for Tier 1 defense towers. To obtain high-level blueprints, you can only do so by running dungeons, challenging bosses, or trading with other players. However, advanced gameplay such as running dungeons and challenging bosses requires defeating monster invasions to unlock them, and Thunder Pool is currently unavailable.
Time passed slowly, and it was late at night. Lei Chi had already fallen asleep in his bedroom. In his drowsy state, he seemed to receive a system notification saying that the orc laborer had saved up a gold coin.
The gold coin is in the gold mine, and there's a special gold coin chest inside. Lei Chi can go and collect it, but he's too lazy to do so, so he'll just leave it in the gold mine. If any player invades and enters the gold mine, he'll give them a surprise.
Lei Chi turned over and continued sleeping. A short while later, a system notification popped up in his mind: "Ding! Player Ma Dongqi has launched an invasion of your secret camp!"
"What?"
Lei Chi opened his eyes
I'm not sleepy anymore!
"Who is this? So dedicated, breaking into my house in the middle of the night!"
Wearing slippers, a tank top, shorts, and oversized shorts, Lei Chi hurried out to greet him.
Insurance fraud requires skill!
I have to go down there and get myself killed!
If you give away a kill, you'll get more compensation; if you don't get killed yourself, you're at a loss!
At this very moment, at the entrance to the war corridor of Leichi, the stout Ma Dongqi was staring blankly at the three little tigers guarding the gate.
"Starting with the Three Little Tigers, standing at the entrance, is this the Little Tigers? Are they just tanking? Giving up?"
Ma Dongqi kept shaking his head. He remembered when he first entered the game. He was a Tech Tower player and started with a Tesla Giant Sword. It was a very rare Tech Tower with high attack power, but it could only be used for melee attacks.
In order to keep the Tesla Giant Sword, he didn't deliberately die and delete his account. Instead, he focused on digging for gold in the gold mine. He dug for three days in a row and finally saved up 10 gold coins. He then bought a blueprint for a Tier 1 Technology Tower, but what he got in return was still the Tesla Giant Sword.
At the time, he really didn't know if his luck was good or bad. Getting two rare towers in a row was incredibly lucky, but these two melee towers were quite frustrating in the early stages of the game.
Ma Dongqi gritted his teeth and dug for gold coins for another four days, finally saving enough to buy the second blueprint for a Tier 1 Technology Tower. Fortunately, he obtained the blueprint for the Laser Tower.
"This guy named Lei Chi is even worse off than me. I dug for a whole week, I was almost throwing up, but at least I made a comeback in the second round. This guy has assembled a little tiger team, even if he's a gold-digging expert, he'd probably have to dig for a week, and the worst part is he still has to keep digging. Poor thing! I almost feel bad robbing him!"
