Chapter 53 A Sudden Change
Chapter 53 A Sudden Change
Just then, a noise was heard. It turned out that Pan Jinlian had brought out some hangover soup. Seeing Zheng Tu passed out drunk, she hurriedly said, "Quickly help Uncle Zheng to the guest room to rest! How can he walk back in such a drunken state?"
Wu Song nodded, and together with Wu Da, they helped Zheng Tu up and carried him to the guest room downstairs.
This is the room the Wu family usually uses to entertain guests. Although it is simple, it is fully equipped and kept very clean.
Pan Jinlian placed Zheng Tu on the bed and personally fed him half a bowl of hangover soup.
Zheng Tu was in a daze, only feeling someone supporting him. A warm soup entered his mouth, bitter and sour, but it made him a little more awake.
He barely opened his eyes and saw an extremely charming and alluring woman bending down to feed him soup. Her beautiful face was very close to his, and her breath was as fragrant as orchids.
Zheng Tu gazed at the person before him with hazy eyes. The feeling of being so close was extremely subtle, as if he could simply reach out and embrace the beauty, then have her at his disposal.
Just as this feeling arose, he looked at Wu Song and Wu Da standing to the side, their faces full of concern.
He couldn't help but shiver.
"I...lost my composure..." He struggled to sit up.
Pan Jinlian pressed him down and said softly, "Uncle, please rest well. Stay here tonight and leave when you're sober."
Wu Song also said, "Brother Zheng, you should rest here to avoid further hardship."
Although Wu Song and his group suggested that Zheng Tu stay at Wu Dalang's house, Zheng Tu, though drunk, still retained a sliver of clarity in his mind, and dared not truly let them do as they pleased.
He was no saintly gentleman who could remain unmoved by temptation; now, with the strong liquor down his throat, his blood was churning, and his whole body was burning with heat.
Moreover, Pan Jinlian was such a charming and beautiful woman, whose every smile and frown was even more alluring than the rumors suggested.
The two were now only inches apart, and Zheng Tu could clearly feel the warmth emanating from that soft, delicate body, as well as a strong, captivating aura that made his heart race.
The scent of rouge and powder mingled with a woman's unique feminine fragrance, sweet and rich, quietly spreading out, like silk threads entwining around the nose.
Zheng Tu felt dizzy and his thoughts were sluggish, but his body was getting hotter and hotter.
This robust physique, enhanced by thirty points of energy, has now become a burden. The abnormal flow of qi and blood amplifies the effects of alcohol and stirs up instinctive restlessness.
He could feel himself finding it increasingly difficult to stop looking at Pan Jinlian. Her exquisite curves, her fair skin, and those watery eyes that were staring intently at him…
"If we stay any longer, we might get into trouble!"
Zheng Tu used the last of his strength to struggle to get up from the bed. He swayed twice, then grabbed Wu Song's thick neck, brought his mouth to his ear, and spoke in a hoarse, strained voice:
"Erlang...you must...take me back to my room in the teahouse! Staying here...is absolutely inappropriate!"
His words carried an air of undeniable authority.
Seeing that he was so drunk yet still insisted on leaving, Wu Song was puzzled, but knew that his sworn brother always had a plan. So he nodded and said, "In that case, Wu Er will carry my brother back."
Having said that, he half-squatted down, put Zheng Tu's arms on his shoulders, and with a forceful lift, carried the burly man on his back.
Zheng Tu's body was quite heavy, weighing at least 180 or 190 pounds, but Wu Song carried him as easily as if he were a child, his steps steady and without any sign of strain.
This shows just how strong Wu Erlang is!
Seeing that Wu Song agreed to take him back, Zheng Tu leaned on Wu Song's broad back, and a huge weight was finally lifted from his heart.
My eyelids suddenly felt as heavy as lead, and I could no longer hold them up. My head tilted to the side and I fell into a deep sleep.
Pan Jinlian stood aside and, seeing Zheng Tu's attitude, no longer insisted. She simply pouted her moist red lips and said softly, "Since Uncle Zheng insists, I will not force you to stay. I will trouble you, Erlang."
With Zheng Tu on his back, Wu Song smiled apologetically at Wu Da and his sister-in-law: "My brother is just like that, very stubborn. Let him be. Please don't be offended, brother and sister-in-law. I'll go back after seeing him off."
Wu Da hurriedly said, "Go and come back quickly! It's dark at night, be careful!"
Wu Song nodded, carried Zheng Tu on his back, and strode out the door.
Night had fallen, and the streets were quiet, save for the sound of the night watchman's drum and the distant barking of dogs.
Fortunately, Zheng Tu's teahouse room was not far away, only a few dozen steps away.
Wu Song arrived shortly afterward.
He pushed open the door, gently placed Zheng Tu on the bed, took off his shoes and socks, and pulled the thin blanket over him.
After Zheng Tu lay down, he began snoring loudly almost immediately, occasionally muttering a few words in his sleep, which were difficult to hear clearly.
Wu Song stood by the bed for a moment, then shook his head and smiled bitterly: "This brother is good in every way, except that he has a very low alcohol tolerance. He gets completely drunk every time and always needs someone to take him home."
He listened carefully to Zheng Tu's even and deep breathing, and knew that he was sound asleep and there was nothing wrong, so he was relieved. He tucked the blanket around Zheng Tu again before turning around and leaving the room, gently closing the door behind him.
Suddenly, the room fell silent.
Only Zheng Tu's snoring rose and fell, echoing in the dark night.
A few rays of moonlight peeked through the gaps in the window paper, casting a hazy glow inside the room. A jumble of odds and ends lay in the corner, a satchel sat under the bed, and a teacup was overturned on the table; everything was shrouded in a gray, shadowy atmosphere.
This went on for about half an incense stick's time.
Suddenly, after a rustling sound, the paper of the old window was gently dampened by something.
Then, with extreme care, a finger was turned and poked a small hole without making a sound.
After a moment, a jet-black eye slowly emerged from the cave entrance.
His eyes darted left and right, scanning the cramped room.
The moonlight was dim, and the furnishings inside the room were indistinct, but the owner of the eyes clearly had excellent night vision and quickly locked onto the target.
On the bed in the corner of the room, a dark figure was rising and falling, accompanied by heavy snoring.
His eyes remained fixed and motionless.
After identifying his target, the man did not rush to act, but simply stood still and quietly peered through the small hole, as patient as a tiger or leopard hunting.
Time passed slowly, and the people outside the window remained motionless, like clay figures.
Once his eyes had fully adjusted to the darkness, the layout of the room became clearer: a hard bed, a wooden table, a bench, and some miscellaneous items piled in the corner. The dark figure on the bed was clearly defined, definitely a burly man.
About the time it takes for an incense stick to burn has passed.
Only then did the person outside the window seem to confirm that Zheng Tu was truly asleep.
Then, a rustling sound came from the window, as if someone was groping for something.
Zheng Tu turned over in his sleep, and his snoring subsided slightly.
The noise outside the window stopped immediately.
A moment later, the snoring resumed.
"Whoosh whoosh whoosh whoosh whoosh whoosh!"
"Whoosh whoosh whoosh whoosh whoosh whoosh!"
No muffled groan came from inside the room. After a while, drops of liquid began to drip from the bed, forming a trickle.
The man slipped into the shadows and waited for a moment. Seeing that no one was coming to check, he slowly slipped through the window, followed by the sound of flesh being slashed.
