Chapter 39 Apprentice Magician
Chapter 39 Apprentice Magician
The lingering effects of the blizzard completely dissipated, and Enzo used magic to restore the battleground, which had been reduced to a wrecked mess.
Only the moisture in the air remained, meant to neutralize the effects of ice magic.
To avoid being surrounded by the enthusiastic Little Locke, he led the three members of the Ghost Stories Society away from the scene and back to the airship.
Snow Shadow Doll, having exhausted its magic, returned to the Gulu Ball. Louis slowly opened his eyes, pressed his fingertips against the throbbing back of his head, and frowned slightly.
When he opened his eyes, he saw Iris's palm glowing white as she healed his injuries.
He slowly straightened up, leaning on his cane, and his gaze immediately fell on Lin Feng. He recalled what had happened before he lost consciousness and couldn't help but feel ashamed.
A genuine look of remorse appeared on Louis's face, and his voice was gentle yet tinged with self-reproach: "I'm sorry, Lin Feng."
"I never expected that my wish would temporarily release the Snow Shadow Doll from its binding magic, which caused the magic to go out of control and put you in danger. It is a serious dereliction of duty on my part as a teacher."
Louis bowed slightly, his brown hair falling down, his attitude extremely sincere, without the slightest airs of a kingdom magician.
At this moment, Iris stepped in to explain, "Young Lin Feng, actually, Teacher Louis didn't mean it."
If he hadn't been knocked unconscious by the rock, this little incident would have been a piece of cake to handle!
Lin Feng sighed. He knew that something must have happened to cause the blizzard to rage for so long.
But how does this battle count? The task on the system panel doesn't show as completed.
We can't possibly start all over again, can we?
With precautions in place, the threat of wealth isn't so great! He sighed, "I know, but this magical challenge..."
Louis thought for a moment, then said, "Even without the blizzard, I would probably still lose the match, and this is already the standard for a senior researcher!"
"I think, with your elven bond, tactical planning, and on-the-spot decision-making, if this isn't enough to qualify you as an apprentice mage, then this year's freshmen will probably be crying out in despair."
He raised his hand, and a faint blue magical light emanated from his palm. An apprentice badge engraved with magical patterns slowly condensed and floated lightly toward Lin Feng.
"So, congratulations, Lin Feng, you've passed the test!"
The moment the words were spoken, the entire room fell into a brief silence.
The next second, deafening cheers and applause erupted, sweeping across the entire academy grounds.
"He won! Lin Feng really defeated Teacher Louis!"
"Are you kidding me! He's already this good before even starting school, the teachers will definitely use him as an example and give us tons of homework, right?"
"That's awesome! I knew my idol could do it! Dude, don't you think he's the most amazing freshman in history?"
"That's not the case, Enzo..."
Mia's brother, sensing the threatening look in his sister's eyes, stopped speaking and immediately changed his tune, saying, "Of course! No new student has ever been this amazing before."
Then Mia was left alone, giggling like a lovesick fool.
Unlike the cheers of the many Locke fans, Aunt Lorraine covered her mouth, her eyes red-rimmed.
She looked at the boy standing in the center of the field and felt gratified that he had become an excellent magician.
But when he thought of Lin Feng being buried by the blizzard, his heart clenched again, his joy mixed with an unbearable heartache.
If becoming a magician meant frequently encountering such dangers, she would rather Lin Feng be an ordinary Locke like her.
Martha stood at the edge of the crowd, watching Lin Feng's back, her resolve growing stronger.
I need to work even harder! One day, I will use my own strength to protect all the Locke I want to protect!
A system panel suddenly popped up in front of Lin Feng.
[Limited-time Quest: Become an Apprentice Mage with the Strongest Ability - Completed. Reward: Magic Shield]
Mission accomplished?
Lin Feng accepted the badge, his heart filled with joy.
Soon, a memory about the use of ordinary magic appeared in his mind, and he murmured:
"So, the magic shield is actually a bloodline rune that constantly builds defenses within the body. Like an elf, you just need to inject magic power when you need to use it."
The noise gradually subsided, and the onlookers dispersed in twos and threes, still excitedly discussing the thrilling battle they had just witnessed.
Out of guilt, Louis made a point of keeping Lin Feng behind and gave him 100 bottles of magic dust as compensation.
The dust was of excellent quality, rigorous and well-organized, yet somewhat rigid, appearing to be the work of a royal alchemist.
Out of fear of facing the teacher, some of the new students did not rush up to talk to Lin Feng, but waited expectantly for him to leave so they could chase after him and ask him questions.
However, Lin Feng and Aunt Lorraine disappeared with a single teleport, leaving the disappointed little Rockers secretly shedding tears.
He certainly hadn't forgotten the four Chilly dogs at home that were in terrible condition.
These four little guys were quiet and adorable. Lin Feng thought that even if they weren't adopted as Pokémon, they could still be kept as pets, and they were more pleasing to the eye than DuckJiji.
He carried four beautiful grasses to the adorable fairy hospital.
At the entrance of the Elf Hospital, two red-haired crosses were treating elves with minor injuries.
Inside the hospital, there were many Lockes coming and going! Some brought elves to see a doctor, while others brought Lockes.
There was even Locke lurking in a corner, which suggested that his illness must be quite troublesome.
Lin Feng had woken up here twice already, so he was somewhat familiar with the layout. He sighed, "Luckily, I survived this time and didn't end up here again."
Of course, such a large hospital has more than just Mengmeng as a doctor; there are also many little elves serving as nurses and assistants.
Lin Feng carried four Qili Grasses into a temporarily vacant office, where a female Locke was consulting with Chrysanthemum Pear.
The chubby little pear looked adorable standing on the desk, and Lin Feng couldn't resist touching its round, plump little bottom.
His eyes lit up – bouncy and chewy!
Chrysanthemum Pear was startled by Lin Feng's sudden action.
"Ah↓ Ah↑ Ah↓ Ah↑ Ah↓"
The woman, Locke, grabbed Chrysanthemum Pear and looked at Lin Feng warily, saying, "Don't attack the doctor's assistant!"
Lin Feng smacked his lips. This little thing was really rare. He had to catch one to admire in the future. Thinking this, he smiled apologetically and said:
"Doctor, can you take a look? Why has my jasmine suddenly become so wilted?"
"Hmm... let me see."
The woman Locke examined it carefully with a magnifying glass.
"Hmm... the roots are very sturdy, and it looks like it has plenty of magic. It's a little shy, but it doesn't seem to have any major problems. Let me check it out..."
The female Locke began to grope the Qili Grass, looking extremely lewd and perverted, which frightened the remaining three Qili Grasses, causing them to whimper.
"All four of them seem to have the same problem: they need to evolve, but their flower buds aren't getting enough nutrients."
"Not getting enough nutrition? What should I feed them then?"
Lin Feng asked.
The female Locke wrote a list saying, "Don't feed them too many cocoa beans and figs, and let them get plenty of sunshine, otherwise most of the nutrients will be used for digestive magic, which is why they are not getting enough nutrition."
"So, as long as I get plenty of sunshine, everything will be fine, right?"
……
The days that followed returned to a calm yet fulfilling rhythm.
Lin Feng would go to the Faraway Merchant Guild every day. Whenever it was sunny, he would bring four Qili Grasses and throw them on the roof, leaving Fugui to manage them.
He went to the Alchemy Hut to learn alchemy from Claire. For some reason, Claire taught him all kinds of alchemy, but never taught him his specialty, mechanical alchemy.
Lin Feng had asked this question, but Claire didn't answer, so he could only assume that his foundation wasn't solid enough yet and he wasn't ready to learn mechanical alchemy.
It was drizzling the night before the new students registered for school.
Lin Feng finished his alchemy lesson for the day. He had studied sacrificial magic and was extremely sensitive to life force.
He sensed that Claire's vitality had faded considerably, and he couldn't help but feel worried.
"After enrolling, I'll find an opportunity to sacrifice some spirits to give him some energy."
Thinking it over, he teleported back to his room.
On the windowsill, the four little Qili Grass were simultaneously glowing with the light of evolution!
The white light enveloped their bodies, and the light and shadow grew larger and larger. The flower buds on the top of the Qili grass turned into four petals, and the roots became more succulent.
"Just like that doctor said, if you get enough nutrition, you can evolve."
Lin Feng rested his chin on his hand, curiously glanced at their information on the star chart, and was immediately shocked.
"Holy crap! They're all incredibly talented!"
