Chapter 32 Preparing for Rest
Chapter 32 Preparing for Rest
"Girlfriend?" Lorraine asked, feigning confusion.
"They really will climb any pole they can get their hands on!" Ouyang sighed in relief.
I still miss the serious version of you from before.
"Didn't you break the seal yourself?"
Lorraine shrugged, feigning helplessness.
"Let's get down to business. Where are we going now?"
The industrial area has been invaded by zombie beetles, and there are also swarms of zombie rats hiding underground. There's definitely no way to go back.
Lorraine learned from the intelligence system that the ruins were located downstream of the river, but he knew nothing about the surrounding environment or whether there was a dock.
"Wait a moment, let me check the map."
Lorraine opened the map stored on the data panel and pretended to study it.
Lorraine first located the approximate location of the ruins on a map using information provided by the intelligence system.
From their current location, Lorraine followed the river south and discovered a city downstream from the factory. According to the map, the city had a sizable dock.
"Let's rest here for a bit and see if there are any useful resources around here."
Lorraine pointed to the docks on the edge of the city.
Ouyang Nian was curious about the location Lorraine had chosen.
"So why not rest at my workshop before exploring the city?"
"It's not just the two of us who need to rest; we also need to replace the ship's engine and modify the cargo ship. There's a ton of work to do."
Lorraine was somewhat helpless. Had she been provoked into a daze by her own actions?
"The main problem is that you only have a simple dock there, which isn't enough to secure these two boats. Even if the environment is too limited to go into the dry dock to change the engine, you should at least find a place with calm waters."
"So what do we do now?"
Ouyang Nian quickly changed the subject.
"Give the Tengu and Di Ting some maintenance, check the kill rewards, and research the cargo ship's modification plan."
"I'm going to do some maintenance on the Tengu and the others first. I'll come back later to discuss the cargo ship's modification plan with you."
Ouyang Nian ran out in a panic, and Luo Lin could vaguely see her bright red ears through her long hair.
"Your defense isn't good either."
Lorraine scratched her face, feeling the burning sensation from her fingertips.
"Never mind, it's all the same."
Lorraine shifted her focus to the kill rewards.
Kill 5 mutated zombies.
[One Alien Zombie Leader]
[4 Guardian Insects]
[Kill Reward: Tier 1 Ship Upgrade Material Pack x1, 10 Units of Fuel]
Lorraine didn't care about the amount of the reward; as long as she got the upgrade material pack, she considered the task complete.
Having secured the most important reward, Lorraine turned to planning the modification of the cargo ship.
"Ouyang Nian has already prepared a plan for the warehouse renovation."
Lorraine began planning the shipment on the data board.
"There are four windows on top and a lifting platform on the bottom. The robotic arm required for automatic weapon mounting is currently unavailable and cannot be made. We can only manually mount the weapons by entering the container through the maintenance port."
After checking all the materials he had, Lorraine couldn't help but feel somewhat disheartened.
"The materials are still insufficient. The unmanned strike platform currently being built can only carry out one round of strikes, while the reconnaissance drones can maintain continuous reconnaissance."
Lorraine was very distressed as she edited and deleted data on the data board.
A pair of slightly rough hands touched Lorraine's head.
"Take a short break. Didn't we agree to study this together? Why are you starting to study it by yourself?"
After Ouyang Nian finished preparing the samples and loading the ammunition for Tiangou and Diting, he returned to the driver's cab.
Upon entering, I saw Lorraine studying a drone strike platform with a pained expression.
"With the materials we have now, it's completely impossible to achieve the desired combat effect."
Lorraine threw down her pen and slumped into her chair in pain.
Ouyang Nian massaged Lorraine's head with just the right amount of pressure.
"If our current equipment and materials do not meet your expectations, instead of trying every means to improve our immediate combat power, we should reserve some redundancy for upgrades."
After seeing that Luo Lin had gradually calmed down, Ouyang Nian then shared her opinion.
"As our journey continues, our ships will upgrade. Don't worry too much about converting all items into immediate combat power; after all, we're already invincible. Aren't we?"
"I've fallen into a misconception."
Lorraine admitted his mistake, stating that if all of Party B's materials were converted into immediate combat power, there would be no room for maneuver in the face of unforeseen circumstances.
"Alright, leave the rest to me."
Ouyang Nian sat down next to Luo Lin, picked up the data board, and began to modify his design plan.
"Oh, right." Seeing Ouyang Nian sitting next to her, Luo Lin suddenly remembered something.
"Next time, please use a lighter touch for the massage."
"Snap!" A crisp sound.
"Ouch, that hurts! I was just teasing you, you didn't have to hit me so hard!"
Lorraine grimaced and scratched his back.
"Stop pretending, I didn't use that much force."
Ouyang Nian glanced at the man. His initial seriousness and caution had vanished, and now he seemed rather smug.
"I truly regret breaking your seal."
Ouyang Nian looked at Lorraine sitting next to him and missed the Lorraine who used to be serious.
"It's too late to regret it now, just accept reality."
Lorraine shrugged, stood up, and prepared to get some food.
"I'll go get something to eat. What would you like to eat?"
"Give me a serving of curry chicken."
Ouyang Nian said without looking up, her attention completely focused on the design drawings.
Lorraine took out two portions of military rations from the warehouse, heated them up, and served them to Ouyang Nian.
"Let's rest for a while, we'll be ashore soon. I'll take them down to check the safety of the surrounding area later."
Lorraine mumbled something indistinctly as she stuffed food into her mouth.
"I just glanced at it. Changing the engine doesn't require the two of us to do anything. After confirming the engine needs to be changed on the panel, we can just wait in the cab for the change to be completed."
"Shall I continue drawing?"
"If you have time, could you keep an eye on the footage from the reconnaissance drones?"
Lorraine took a sip of water and continued.
"When we take Di Ting and Tian Gou out to investigate potential dangers later, we need to focus on the surrounding environment and won't be able to pay attention to another perspective."
"Shall we go now?"
Ouyang Nian was a little worried as he watched Luo Lin finish the rest of the food in a few bites and get up to leave.
"No rush. I'll go get the Lynx sniper rifle first. There are plenty of good sniping spots around here. I'm afraid that someone with good aim might take down the drone with a single shot."
Lorraine waved her hand and continued.
"I'll set up my sniper rifle first, ready to counterattack, just in case the drone gets shot down and we have no weapon to threaten him."
