Chapter 35 Rainy Night Brawl
Chapter 35 Rainy Night Brawl
Batman tapped his fingertips lightly on the pipe grille, making a soft sound.
The bodyguards below, like startled birds, cautiously looked up and around.
However, they found nothing and could only lower their heads again in unease.
Just then, the bar door was kicked open.
Harvey Dent stood in the doorway, rain dripping from his charred hair and forming small puddles on the floor.
He wasn't carrying a gun, but he was holding that familiar coin in his hand.
The burned side of his face looked even more grotesque and terrifying under the bar's overhead light.
"Maroney," Harvey began, his voice low but plunging the entire bar into silence, "I'm here to talk to you about 'fairness'."
Maroni suddenly stood up, his hand trembled, and the gold-plated revolver fell onto the bar with a "clatter".
"Harvey? You're really not dead?!" His voice was filled with disbelief, then turned to rage. "This isn't my fault, the Joker made me do it!"
"You're the one who ruined us!" Harvey approached step by step. Although Maroni's gang of henchmen were armed, they were all frightened by Harvey's appearance.
"You're the one who made things between Rachel and me like this!"
Do you think that by having Watts cover for you, you can rest easy and get away with it?
I'm telling you, you're oversimplifying things!
Harvey slammed the coin down on the bar, heads up.
"Tell me, who else in the police station works for you? Tell me, and I'll spare your life."
Maroni's eyes darted around, and he looked at the bodyguards around him for help.
But he found that those people had already retreated in fear and dared not look him in the eye.
"You're insane! Harvey, you're completely insane!"
"Madness?" Harvey picked up the coin, his fingertips lightly tracing the scratches on it, his eyes empty and sorrowful.
"When you watch flames rise before your eyes and you can't do anything about it,
You will then know what true 'wakefulness' really is.
Before he finished speaking, he tossed the coin high into the air, where it traced a silvery arc under the light.
"Wait!" Maroni suddenly shouted, his voice filled with panic, "It's Ramirez! She took my money..."
Before Maroni could finish speaking, Harvey caught the coin.
As he slowly opened his palm, the coin was revealed to be jet black—tails up.
"Dude, calm down."
Rearing Batman from rushing out of the pipe, Levi gestured for him not to act rashly, "Let Harvey handle that bastard Maroney."
"This is against the rules..."
"Alright, buddy, there's no such thing as a guy wearing a black cape in Gotham's rules."
Seeing that Batman was about to say something, Li Wei cut him off and then looked down through the gap.
Harvey saw the coin land tails up and laughed heartily.
But to Li Wei, the smile was somewhat eerie, even more chilling than crying.
He bent down, picked up the revolver that Maroni had dropped on the bar, and slowly aimed the gun at Maroni.
"Accept the judgment of justice!"
Maroni's face turned deathly pale. He grabbed a bottle and threw it at Harvey, then turned and ran wildly toward the emergency exit.
"Bang!"
Harvey's shot was partially obscured by the clutter, so he didn't hit Maroni; instead, he pierced through the liquor cabinet.
Seeing Harvey's rookie-like performance, Li Wei couldn't help but secretly complain.
This guy clearly rarely watches movies; he doesn't even know about the principle of not talking nonsense.
"It's our turn!" Levi said to Batman, pressing the controller in his hand at the same time.
—That was set up before we came; it can be used to control the bar's circuitry.
In an instant, the entire bar was plunged into darkness.
Screams, gunshots, and the sounds of tables and chairs falling over were all mixed together in complete chaos.
Li Wei heard the sound of Batman leaping out of the ventilation duct, and also the muffled groan of the bodyguard being knocked down.
Finally, Harvey roared in fury, "Coward! You stop right there!"
In the darkness, Li Wei groped his way down from the ventilation duct, nearly tripping over a fallen wine bottle as he landed.
He quickly turned on his powerful flashlight, the beam sweeping through the chaotic crowd before finally settling on the doorway.
Harvey was firing wildly at a black sedan, the bullets hitting the left front wheel with pinpoint accuracy.
"Bang!"
The tires exploded and quickly deflated, causing the car to tilt violently.
Maroni had frantically crawled into the car, and now he was stuck in the deformed door, groaning in pain.
"This is what you owe Rachel!"
Harvey roared and fired another shot, the bullet hitting the hood of the car and sparking.
"Harvey!" Levi shouted as he tried to get closer, but the other man suddenly pointed a gun at his chest.
Seeing this, Li Wei had no choice but to obediently raise his hands; he didn't want to be shot without knowing why.
"Don't come any closer! You're next!"
In the darkness, Harvey's eyes shone with a frightening light, as if a mad rage was burning within them.
He glanced at Maroni, who was stuck in the car and unable to move, and only turned around after confirming that the other man's legs were firmly pinned down by the car body and that he was completely unable to move.
After confirming everything, he suddenly burst open the emergency exit door and disappeared into the thick rain.
When the lights came on again, Batman was pinning the last bodyguard who tried to resist to the ground.
Li Wei took an umbrella from the door and walked to the car, where he found that Maroni's left leg was pinned down by the car body.
His face was ashen, and he couldn't stop groaning.
"Help me...help me..."
"Dude, thank God you didn't get killed."
Ignoring Maroni's cries for help, Levi slowly squatted down in front of the man.
After confirming that he was indeed pinned down and unable to move, he reached out and wiped the water off his hands on his suit. "Take care, someone will be here to rescue you soon."
He has just contacted the police station via internal communication, and someone will be coming to take him away soon.
Where did Harvey go?
Li Wei turned around and met Batman's probing gaze.
"If I'm not mistaken, he should have gone to see Ramirez," Levi thought, closing his eyes to recall Ramirez's address.
"Her apartment is in Brooklyn, about a 15-minute drive from here. We might have to split up."
Meeting Batman's probing gaze, Li Wei smiled and explained the reason.
"I'm going to Ramirez's house; it's closer." Levi said, pointing to the Batmobile not far away.
"With this guy, you'd be better off at a boarding school in the suburbs."
Ramirez has a daughter studying there. Xavi wouldn't harm the child, but he might use her to force Ramirez to tell the truth.
Batman nodded slightly, said nothing more, and turned to disappear into the rain.
Watching the Batmobile roar away, Levi couldn't quite describe his feelings.
He didn't actually want to completely eliminate Harvey.
After all, from the perspective of traditional Chinese values, everything Harvey did could be considered revenge for every wrong done to him.
Therefore, Levi stopped Batman several times when he was about to make a move, which gave Harvey the opportunity to escape.
As for sending Batman to the boarding school, it was purely to get him out of the way; Harvey might not even know that Ramirez has a daughter studying there.
Even if he knew that Xavi was in a hurry to find Ramirez, he wouldn't have had time to beat around the bush.
He did this because he felt that his ideals were somewhat different from Batman's.
The Batmobile roared through the streets, and Batman sat inside, his face heavy as he watched the street scenes rushing past on both sides.
"Is there really something wrong with my thinking?"
