Chapter 269: Meaning

Everyone paused. You Qi’s face shifted, “I saw the young master when he was lying down.” Moments later, the travellers started to panic. After some comparisons, a scary truth was revealed. Young Master Huang’s pose... kept changing.

As the order progressed, his pose became more confusing. You Qi was the first. When he saw Young Master Huang, the latter was lying on his back. Shi Liaozhi was the second. He saw Young Master Huang lying on his side.

The third was Zuo Qing. She saw Young Master Huang leaning against the edge of the bed. An Xuan was the fourth. He stayed at the back of the group, carrying the unconscious Tang Shirou on his back. Qin Jian was the closest to them. Since Tang Shirou hadn’t woken up, she was the only one not in the costume. An Xuan purposely tried to keep the others from interacting with Tang Shirou. He kept her in his control. No one chose to interrupt them. They turned instead to Jiang Cheng.

After all, they already knew the situation with Xia Meng, who was the fifth. She said that by her turn, Young Master Huang was already seated.

“He was half-kneeling,” Jiang Cheng said as he pretended to be thinking. He slightly bent down and leaned forward. Jiang Cheng tried his best to mimic how Young Master Huang was acting back then.

He suddenly lunged at the pale Shi Liaozhi, causing the latter to stumble and scream.

“Are you sick?” Shi Liaozhi grumbled with annoyance, “If you didn’t return the second to last, I would think you’re actually a ghost!” Once he said that, everyone turned to Qin Jian, who was lagging behind. At that moment, his black mourning clothes fluttered in the wind. The view wasn’t that great.

Before they left, the middle-aged woman took away their original clothes so they could only walk around in strange and burdensome costumes. As Jiang Cheng put it, he could feel the wind around his lower body. He licked his lips and went to Xia Meng to enquire if she felt the same wind. The latter glared at him. Jiang Cheng patted his butt and bounced over to ask Zuo Qing the same question.

It was already noon when they returned to their temporary home. Even though the sun was shining, considering what had happened, everyone looked severe. The middle-aged woman told them that the food had been prepared and set up at the pavilion and left.

Her steps looked small, but she moved fast. It felt like she was floating. In just a few seconds, she disappeared.

Fatty swallowed nervously.

Qin Jian scanned everyone. He seemed like he had more to say.

“Elder Qin,” An Xuan put down the chopsticks and stared at him quietly until the latter looked at him back. “Did you notice something?” An Xuan did a good job by throwing the question back.

Qin Jian tapped his fingers on the table and said slowly, “Have you heard of Golden Boy and Jade Maiden?”

“Sir... what do you mean?” Tang Shirou, who had eaten two bowls of fish soup, asked.

“Do you mean the song that Young Master Huang was singing?” You Qi asked.

“Indeed.”

“Then, why didn’t you say anything earlier?” Zuo Qing demanded. She glared at Qin Jian. “We all heard the song yesterday night. Why did you wait until now to tell us this crucial bit of information?”

The atmosphere tensed. Why would she challenge the old man who looked like a ghost? Did she want to die?

Almost imperceptibly, Shi Liaozhi beside her leaned back to avoid being involved.

“The singing yesterday was too weak. I only felt that it was familiar. I couldn’t confirm it until earlier. When hearing it up close, I confirmed that it was the songs from Golden Boy and Jade Maiden,” Qin Jian’s reply was flawless.

“Golden Boy and Jade Maiden sounds like a great story,” Xia Meng added, “Then, we’ll have to trouble Elder Qin to educate us youngsters about it.”
