Chapter 1022: Marriage Registration 1
Chapter 1022: Marriage Registration 1
"I’m not you. In a law-based society of monogamy, I can’t and won’t do the filthy three-wives-four-concubines kind of crap!"
Bai Xijing: "..."
Seeing the undisguised sarcasm in his younger son’s eyes, Bai Xijing felt as if someone had shoved a knife straight into his heart.
"Bai Chenyao!"
That shout of "Bai Chenyao" was low and cold, carrying the authority of a man at the top.
Any ordinary person, under such pressure from Bai Xijing, would probably have been trembling with fear long ago.
But the one standing opposite him was no ordinary person; it was his younger son whom he had never been able to control—Bai Chenyao.
Looking at the clearly enraged Bai Xijing, Bai Chenyao curled his lips. On his handsome, cold face appeared a faint smile that never reached his eyes.
His dark, deep eyes were like eternal frost that could never melt, pressing straight toward Bai Xijing.
"I’m just telling the truth. That makes you this mad?"
Not giving Bai Xijing a chance to speak, Bai Chenyao’s expression turned especially indifferent.
"Remember this: when it comes to my marriage, none of you get to interfere!"
His eyes were like blades of ice, stabbing straight into Bai Xijing’s heart. Bai Chenyao pressed his lips together, and that cold, detached voice sounded again.
"Before the end of the year, I’ll go get the marriage license with Tian Tian and make him my rightful, legitimate spouse!"
Hearing this, Bai Xijing’s pupils shrank sharply. He stared at his younger son with an especially severe expression.
"Chen Yao, have you lost your mind!"
"Have you forgotten how she hurt you back then?"
"You—"
Bai Chenyao’s expression grew even icier, to the point of polar frost. Bai Xijing knew that if he dared bring up so much as half a word about those past events, he could probably forget about ever seeing his younger son again.
His face froze. Bai Xijing quickly dropped that topic, his stern features turning serious.
"Which day?"
Bai Chenyao didn’t answer Bai Xijing’s question. His eyes, icy-cold, fixed on Bai Xijing, distant as if looking at a stranger.
"I don’t want to waste time."
The meaning was obvious: if they didn’t get to the point, he would walk out right now.
Bai Xijing took a deep breath and only after a long moment did he speak quickly.
"About the land in the south of the city, the municipal government may have opened public bidding, but the relationships involved are extremely tangled. Tell Muse to withdraw!"
Bai Chenyao didn’t seem the least bit surprised that Bai Xijing would bring up the land in the south of the city. The corners of his thin lips lifted slightly, his voice low and indifferent.
"And if I don’t?"
The expression on Bai Xijing’s face turned especially severe, with a distinct chill to it.
"A Yao, the situation with that land in the south of the city is not like before. The relationships there are intricate and deeply entrenched. It’s nowhere near as simple as you think!"
Listening, Bai Chenyao’s handsome, cold face didn’t change, but the indifference and lack of feeling in his eyes deepened even further.
"Is it really that complicated, or are you just worried I’ll wreck what you’re after?"
Bai Xijing was choked speechless again.
Looking at Bai Xijing’s darkened face, Bai Chenyao’s gaze sharpened, turning particularly ruthless and sinister.
"There has never been anything I, Bai Chenyao, wanted to do that I couldn’t accomplish."
"Complicated relationships, all tangled up? Then I’ll just wipe them out in one go, so they’ll never crawl back up again."
Before Bai Xijing could speak, Bai Chenyao had already turned around and was striding toward the elevators.
Watching his son’s proud, imposing back, Bai Xijing had to admit that he really was getting old.
"A Yao!"
He called out to Bai Chenyao, but Bai Chenyao acted as if he hadn’t heard, walking into the elevator with an indifferent expression.
Su Yue, who had just rushed to the hospital, happened to miss Bai Chenyao when their elevators passed each other. When she came up, she saw the old man standing alone in the empty corridor, his expression grim and his face ashen.
