Chapter 619: The ice-slick zones.

"I SAID EYES FORWARD!"

Korvath repeated his words.

"THE MONSTERS YOU SEE AHEAD OF YOU HAVE FLESH! THEY BLEED WHEN YOU HIT! THEY FALL WHEN YOU BREAK THEM!

AND AS LONG AS THEY FALL—

MAKE THEM FALL!

ATTACK AND ATTACK FIERCELY!!!

KILL!!!"

He screamed at the top of his lungs, the Alliance Army understood it, the Velmourns understood and a new fire was lit under their eyes.

The rest of the tribes narrowed their eyes, the translators saw it and thought of translating but then—

"KILL!!!"

The Stonefangs repeated that word in the Velmourn Tongue.

Yes, they didn’t understand most of what Korvath said, but they didn’t need to understand it. Just the intensity at which those words were said was more than enough for them to understand the core meaning behind them and they repeated whatever Korvath said.

And it wasn’t just the Stonefangs either—

"KILL!!!"

"KILL!!!"

"KILL!!!"

Korvath’s voice resonated with every tribe member, so well that even Korvath himself couldn’t seem to believe it for a moment.

"KILL!!!"

"KILL!!!"

"KILL!!!"

He, however, did not let this chance go to waste.

The entirety of the Alliance Army was screaming a single word, the fear was disappearing even as the enemy charged towards them.

This was the moment to push forward.

This was the moment where Korvath could use the now-strengthened army and hit back multiple times stronger than they hit them.

"ATTACK!!"

He commanded as he turned back towards the enemy. The enemy didn’t care about their little show, their men did not look intimidated, not one did. They all had the same smile their group had had ever since they appeared.

It was as if they were incapable of showing any other emotion, that made Korvath want to stop for a moment and observe them.

But he did not.

There was something wrong with the enemy, something he did not understand, something he wouldn’t be able to understand, at least not until he was able to rest his mind and think properly for a while.

He, however, did not have that kind of time.

So he decided to do what he told his men to do.

He decided to kill.

As more and more enemies came pouring in, the first true wave hit. Since the tests were already done, since the enemy had already tested everything they wanted to test—

They came in at full force.

The faster beasts were ahead, taking the full brunt of all the arrows and stones.

Behind them was a line of warriors who kept long shields that protected them from the attacks and these shields were different from others.

Unlike the usual weapons in the Heights, where material was used very, very carefully since there were next to no resources, these shields had the perfect amount of weight and material.

It was clear that they were given by the outsiders.

And they were using them well.

They were stopping the barrage of arrows that was continuously falling on them.

Behind these shield men were the bigger beasts, beasts with such thick bodies that arrows didn’t even work on them unless they were targeted at their eyes.

Rocks could still hurt them, but most humans weren’t strong enough to throw rocks that were big and heavy enough to actually do substantial damage.

As Korvath saw those beasts all pouring in, he raised his hand.

"REINFORCE THE GATE!!"

He commanded.

If the gate fell, the enemies could come pouring in. That was something he would rather avoid.

Translators translated his words and while many started reinforcing the gates, the archers and throwers above started working even faster, the locks were checked twice, some beasts were brought out of the Sanctuaries, attacking the incoming enemy from a distance, while others reinforced the Gates with their Magic.

But at the same time—

One particular group was preparing for the gates to fall.

In fact, many of their elites wanted to either open the gates, or jump over the wall to face those bastards.

They were the Stonefangs.

Their blood was boiling, they were seething to have a go, to swing at the enemies, to crush their heads into gory pieces.

And the bomb that exploded just a few moments ago only strengthened their sentiment. They remembered how that same bomb had once fallen on their people, how it had taken the lives of multiple Stonefangs.

They remembered all that destruction and they remembered how these were the bastards who were behind that destruction and the Stonefangs...

They wanted revenge.

Their eyes burned, they heard how the enemy was right at the gates, their bodies twitched, rearing to go but—

"FORMATION!"

Korvath commanded from above.

Zakaar, the Stonefang Translator repeated the command and that made many of the Stonefangs narrow their eyes.

Why should they listen to a Velmourn?

That thought appeared for a very short second but then—

"FORMATION!"

Gruumak gave the orders and the next instant—

The Stonefang Warriors got into an entirely new formation, together with members of other tribes.

Three rows of spear lines formed, the first row knelt with shields, stopping the attacks from below, the second row’s shields covered the upper area and the third row held spare spears and hooked blades.

The Stonefangs, led by Gruumak, stood behind this formation, glaring at the door as if waiting for the enemy to pour down.

That was when the enemy outside hit the next trap.

The ice-slick zones.

Before the raid, Lavinia made the Alliance Warriors pour water across certain paths, then, she told them to scatter ground ice over it and then cover everything with a thin layer of snow.

From far away, it looked like normal, snowy ground.

The moment the first beasts charged over it, they slipped on the excessively slippery snow and with the momentum they were carrying—

Many crashed chest-first into the snow.

And it didn’t end there, since it was an entire wave with all the enemy beasts rushing in, the beasts that came behind these beasts with full momentum couldn’t stop either, their bodies slammed into the fallen ones and they fell as well—

Turning the entire thing into a tangled mess.

And the worst part?

"ARCHERS!!"

Korvath shouted from above.

"KILL!!!"
