Chapter 497 - 496: Thank You for Your Hard Work
Bea saved Bella Acker’s phone number again before continuing, "Are you busy tomorrow afternoon?"
"Probably can’t during the day." Bella Acker shook her head. "After nine in the evening is fine."
"That late?" Bea frowned, "Are you really that busy lately? You seem to have lost so much weight."
"Really? Maybe it’s just a good opportunity to lose weight." Bella Acker tugged at the corners of her mouth, "I have time after nine at night. Can you arrange for me to meet Damian then?"
"My mom is going with my dad to a cocktail party tomorrow, and she’ll definitely drag my brother along too, so I’ll tag along." Bea considered the feasibility carefully and said, "At the party, I’ll find an excuse to pull my mom away, and then I’ll have a friend bring you in. But the time you can meet will be limited; my mom might get suspicious."
"Alright, I’ll wait for your call tomorrow night." The water on the stove boiled, and Bella Acker removed it, asking, "Bella, do you want plain water or tea?"
"Neither, I’ve got to go." Bea reminded her again, worriedly, "Remember to wait for my call tomorrow. I’ll have my friend come to pick you up first."
Bella Acker nodded, "Don’t come to the apartment to pick me up; I’m not staying here."
"Where are you staying, not at the apartment? At the welfare center?"
"No, I’ve been staying at the hospital lately to help out. Aunt Sienna is ill."
"Aunt Sienna is ill? Is it serious?" Bea frowned, remembering Aunt Sienna as a very kind and gentle elderly lady.
"Late-stage stomach cancer." Bella Acker said, her eyes suddenly reddening again. She took a breath to suppress the bitterness in her heart and said, "At the Second People’s Hospital, have someone pick me up from there."
Hearing this, Bea was stunned, clearly not expecting Aunt Sienna’s hospitalization to be for late-stage stomach cancer. After a few moments of shock, she asked, "Is chemotherapy still an option?"
"The doctor said chemotherapy wouldn’t be much help, and it would just make Aunt Sienna more uncomfortable." Bella Acker rinsed three cups and poured water, saying, "Now it’s all about using medication to relieve her pain."
"So... how much time is left?"
"At most, three months. If it progresses quickly, it might be just a month or two." Bella Acker handed her a cup of water.
Bea hesitated as she took the cup and said, "Then... I have some money here. Take it for Aunt Sienna’s treatment."
As the bank card was presented in front of her, Bella Acker’s tears, which she had managed to hold back, welled up again. She bit her lower lip tightly to stop herself from crying, but her shoulders were trembling.
Bea took a step forward and pulled her into a hug, patting her back gently, "You’ve been through a lot."
Bella Acker shook her head and cried, "No... it’s not hard. If... if it meant that Aunt Sienna could be cured, I’d be willing to endure a hundred or a thousand times more. Ooh..."
People are like this; when they’re alone, they can hold up on their own, but when someone comforts them, their emotions become fragile.
Bella Acker’s tears quickly soaked Bea’s scarf, but Bea didn’t mind. She patted her back in comfort, "Life and death are part of fate; everyone has their time. I’ll go visit Aunt Sienna at the hospital the day after tomorrow, and I’ll call you then."
"Okay." Bella Acker sobbed as she finally calmed her emotions a little, looking apologetically at the scarf she had wet, "Bella, I’m sorry, let me take off the scarf and wash it for you."
"Don’t worry about the scarf. Remember to wait for my call tomorrow."
